NYCEDC が描くイノベーション都市ニューヨーク

第3回ウェビナーでは、ニューヨーク市の経済開発を担うNew York City Economic Development Corporation（NYCEDC）を迎え、収録を行いました。これまでの第1回・第2回で、日本側の戦略とニューヨークにおけるマインドセットを取り上げてきた本シリーズにおいて、本回は「では実際にどのようにNYに入るのか」という問いに正面から向き合う内容となっています。ウェビナーでは、NYCEDCより、ニューヨークのスタートアップ・エコシステムの全体像とともに、海外スタートアップや大学が現地で活動を開始するための具体的な支援策やプログラムについて紹介が行われました。またパネルディスカッションでは、モデレーターを務めるJETROニューヨークの中嶋氏の視点も交えながら、日本のスタートアップや研究機関がNYでネットワークを構築し、実際に活動を始めていくための実践的なステップが議論されています。ニューヨーク進出に関心を持つ方にとって、「関心」から「行動」へと進むための具体的なヒントが得られる回となっています。

New York as an Innovation Hub Shaped by NYCEDC

In the third webinar, we welcomed speakers from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to explore a highly practical question: how to actually enter and engage with the New York innovation ecosystem. Building on the first session, which focused on Japan’s global innovation strategy, and the second session, which highlighted the mindset required to succeed in New York, this webinar shifts the discussion toward actionable steps. NYCEDC provided an overview of the city’s innovation ecosystem along with concrete programs and support available to international startups and research institutions. The panel discussion, moderated jointly with JETRO New York, further explored how Japanese startups and academic institutions can build networks, access local resources, and begin operating in New York. For those considering expansion into New York, this session offers valuable insights into moving from interest to execution.

From Entry to Growth in NYC

In the upcoming fourth webinar, we will welcome Elan Fox from SOSA, who leads accelerator programs in New York supporting international startups entering and scaling in the U.S. market. Building on the previous sessions—which explored Japan’s global innovation strategy, the mindset required to succeed in New York, and the practical entry points into the ecosystem—this session will take the next step by focusing on how startups actually launch and scale in New York. Drawing on his experience working with over 150 international startups, Elan will share practical insights on building partnerships, driving commercialization, and navigating fundraising in the U.S. For startups and research institutions considering expansion into New York, this session will provide valuable guidance on how to move beyond entry and achieve real traction in the market.

Guest ムラト・アクティハノグル氏は、ニューヨークを代表するテクノロジー・アクセラレーター兼アーリーステージVC「ERA」の共同創業者でマネージング・パートナー。2011年の設立以来、全アクセラレーター・コホートおよび全ファンドを統括し、これまでに375社以上のスタートアップに投資してきた。起業家・投資家・技術者・著者としても活躍。2008年には位置情報型SNS「Centrl」を創業。2007年には非営利団体「Entrepreneurs Roundtable」を設立し、ニューヨークのスタートアップ・コミュニティ形成に貢献している。これまでAT&T、ソニー、パナソニックなど世界的企業で技術責任者を務め、テック系カンファレンスの登壇者としても知られる。米日カウンシル評議員なども歴任。トルコ・ビルケント大学でコンピュータサイエンス修士号、電気・電子工学学士号を取得。Watch Archived Video

Guest 記念すべき第１回目は、室田浩司さん（京都大学　副理事（社会連携・イノベーション推進担当）兼　成長戦略本部本部長）をお招きして、11月21日に収録を行ないました。室田さんは、NINEJPにおいては、海外拠点の高度活用を担われておられます。そこで、第1回目らしく、室田さんにNINEJPをはじめとした日本の大学におけるグローバル展開の方向性、そのなかでの米国東海岸における活動と今後の戦略に関して、お話しいただきました。 For our memorable first episode, we welcomed Mr. Koji Murota (Deputy Executive Director of Kyoto University, Director-General for the office of institutional advancement and communication) and recorded the session on November 21. Mr. Murota is responsible for the advanced utilization of overseas hubs within NINEJP. In this inaugural session, we asked him to discuss the direction of global expansion at NINEJP and Japanese universities along with current activities on the U.S. East Coast and the strategies moving forward.
