NEW YORK - Cpl. Ryan Gianola, communications specialist, Special Marine Air Ground Task Force New York accepted an offer to recreate the iconic World War II image of a sailor kissing his girlfriend in Times Square, May 23. Gianola, a Santa Cruz, Calif. native, is one of approximately 3,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen here to take part in the 25th Fleet Week New York, which will take place May 23 - 30. Fleet Week has been New York City’s celebration of the sea services since 1984. It is an unparalleled opportunity for citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as see, firsthand, the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services.
